Lemon, Ginger and Turmeric: Why this combination will give you life.

Here at CookUnity, we know that what we put into our bodies is directly going to affect the way that we feel. We’re always aiming to be our healthiest selves, and this means seeking out regular regiments that we can incorporate into our everyday lives. One of those, that we’ve recently discovered, is this golden combination of lemon, ginger, and turmeric; an alkalizing, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant mixture that keeps us feeling warm from the inside out, especially during these winter months.

Let’s break down the main benefits of each ingredient:

Lemon

Thinking of a lemon as an overall cleaner for your body is not only a happy thought, it’s pretty accurate. Lemon, for one, is alkalizing, meaning that drinking a glass of water with lemon juice helps to restore your body to its natural pH. Lemons also clean your liver, provide a hearty dose of Vitamin C, strengthen your eyes, fight cancer, and are antibacterial. Basically, squeeze a lemon into your morning water in the morning and you are giving your body a birthday present every day.

Ginger

Ginger is known to most as a go-to for an upset stomach, but it holds many more benefits. Turmeric

We like to think we’ve saved the best for last. In recent years, turmeric has come onto the mainstream health scene, having been named one of the best anti-oxidants around. It contains the active ingredient curcumin, which is a natural anti-inflammatory compound. Curcumin also boosts brain function, lowers the risk of brain disease, fights arthritis, fights depression, lowers risk of heart disease, prevents alzheimer’s, and helps to fight and possibly even treat cancer.

This recipe describes a warm tea that is a perfect start to the day.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (500 ml) warm/hot water
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 in (2.5 cm) piece of fresh turmeric, sliced or grated
  • 1 in (2.5 cm) piece of fresh ginger, sliced or grated
  • (you can also add 1-2 tsp honey for sweetness)

Directions
Boil the water.
Mix in the lemon juice with the sliced or grated ginger and turmeric.
Let it steep for 5-10mins then Enjoy! You can also put it in the refrigerator and consume as a cold drink.
